HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 cc193-4W
Mr. D. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that 12 men employed at the opencast coal undertaking at Banwen, Neath, Glamorgan-shire, were dismissed without notice on 6th April though the Essential Work Orders; that although the men have appealed their appeal has not been heard; and whether, in view of the urgent need for increased coal production he will take steps to have these men reinstated.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

I regret that, owing to a misunderstanding it was not realised at the time that the undertaking in question was scheduled under the Essential Work Orders. Appeals have now been submitted and consideration is being given to the proper action, including any question of reinstatement, in the light of the proceedings of the local appeal Board. I will write to my hon. Friend as soon as a decision is reached.
