HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c212W
130. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that engineering apprentices, when called up for military service, are being registered and posted as non-tradesmen; and whether he will issue instructions to ensure that such apprentices are posted as early as possible to units where they will have the opportunity of becoming tradesmen.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

The number of tradesmen's vacancies in the Services to which engineering apprentices can be posted is small and it is therefore, unavoidable that such young men should be called up for general service. The Service authorities, however, earmark potential tradesmen for remustering when appropriate vacancies occur.
