102. Mr. Hale

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that ex-soldiers who are granted licences to commence business in the decorating industry are being refused supplies of wallpaper on the ground that they were not purchasers in 1939; and what action he proposes to take to remedy this hardship.

Mr. Belcher:

Only about 2/5ths of prewar supplies of wallpaper are available for the home market. Distribution is not subject to control but I understand the manufacturers endeavour to distribute the limited supplies equitably among their existing customers.
