HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 cc151-2W
110. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Secretary of State for War how many men of the three Services, now serving overseas, will be delayed in transit to the United Kingdom for release as a result of contingents being brought home for the Victory Celebrations.

Mr. Bellenger:

So far as I am aware the only men whose release will be delayed in order to enable contingents for the Victory March to reach this country in time are just over 600 Army officers and other ranks serving in East Africa. About half of them will be delayed some three weeks beyond their release dates and the remainder about one week. I very much regret that the release of these men should have been delayed but unfortunately it was impossible to make addi tional transport available without very much more serious repercussions on the repatriation of other Service personnel due for release.
