HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 cc153-4W
113. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether there is any age-limit for taxicab drivers; whether he is aware that many men over 80 years of age are still driving taxicabs; and whether it is his intention to take any action in this matter.

Mr. Ede:

There is no upper age limit for motor taxicab drivers licensed in the Metropolitan Police District. At the beginning of this year 21 licensed drivers were over 80 years of age. The Commissioner of Police has recently considered whether any further precautions beyond those now in force are necessary in the case of drivers aged 70 or over. He has been advised that the present medical requirements cover all reasonable needs.
