HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 c144W

85. Sir W. Smithers asked the President of the Board of Trade what price the Government are paying for Nyasaland native-grown cotton; and what price for similar cotton grown in Egypt.

Mr. Marquand:

We are buying Nyasaland cotton on a long-term agreement by which we undertook to purchase all cotton not sold elsewhere. The present price is 8.15d. per lb. f.o.b. for the Southern crop and 8.60d. per lb. for the Northern. We are not buying similar cotton from Egypt.
