HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 c152W
111. Mr. Drayson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if he will give any information as to the length of time it will take to remove the bombs and explosives at present stored in the Bolton-by-Bowland, Halton, West, area of the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Mr. Strachey:

Some of these explosives will be needed for the Royal Air Force and we are also looking after those which are surplus until they are handed over to the Ministry of Supply for disposal. As I said in the House on 1st May, there simply is not enough labour or transport to get the whole job done quickly all over the country. The order of clearing the various dumps depends largely on the facilities available from time to time, and on varying considerations of safety and so on. So I am afraid that at present I can only say that it will be some time before all the roadside storage has been cleared away from this unit in the West Riding.
