HC Deb 09 May 1946 vol 422 c120W
60. Mr. S. Silverman

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury why the Societies (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act is still being operated; how soon the powers thereby granted are to cease; and whether a report will be published showing how these powers have been exercised.

Mr. Whiteley:

I have been asked to reply. The temporary provisions of this Act continue to be operated only in so far as is necessary owing to the continuance of the conditions which they were designed to meet. They will cease to have effect when the emergency for which they were enacted is declared by Order in Council to have come to an end. When publication of the annual report of the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies is resumed, it will give information on the use made of his emergency powers under the Act.
