HC Deb 09 May 1946 vol 422 c126W
Mr. King

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the reason for the distinction in rates of pay between officers aver, and under, 19½ years of age.

Mr. J. Duǵdale:

The hon. Member presumably has in mind the rates of pay of Temporary Second Lieutenants in the Royal Marines. The pay of these officer is equated as far as possible, age for age, with temporary junior officers of the R.N.V.R. These latter officers, under wartime rules, receive an increase in pay at 19½ when they are promoted to Acting Sub-Lieutenant. As a corollary the pay of Temporary Second Lieutenants, R.M., is increased when they reach the age of 19½.
