§ 88. Mr. Osborneasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that orders from local councils for Victory mugs for schoolchildren have been refused owing to the needs of the export trade; and if he will grant a temporary concession to manufacture these mugs until 8th June.
Mr. Belcher: The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir," but I am not prepared to grant the concession sought in the latter part. This decision is in line with what was said by the Prime Minister in his statement to the House on 18th February and I cannot see any sufficient reason for the temporary concession requested.
