HC Deb 07 May 1946 vol 422 c65W
12. Mr. King

asked the Minister of Labour whether boys directed to work in mines whose work is unsatisfactory will now be directed into the Armed Forces; and upon what conditions they can volunteer for the Armed Forces.

Mr. Ness Edwards:

Young men, fit for military service, whose services are no longer of value to the coalmining industry, are called up. Men employed in coalmining are not accepted as volunteers unless in any individual case there are special circumstances making it desirable in the national interest.
