§ Mr. Viantasked the Minister of Health how many cases of smallpox have been brought to this country in ships this year; whether any of them proved fatal; which cases were Servicemen or members of crews; and what was the vaccinal condition of each case.
§ Mr. Bevan:My information is that IO cases of smallpox have been landed in this country from ships since the beginning of this year; that one case proved fatal; and that all were members of His Majesty's Forces or of the ships' crews. The vaccination history of seven of these cases was contained in the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend on 2nd April; for the other three cases it was as follows:
- Vaccinated in infancy: September, 1941; January, 1945.
- Vaccinated in infancy: October, 1941; September, 1944; March, 1946.
- Vaccinated 1945 and March, 1946.
