§ 48. Mr. Kingasked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the desirability of conserving the inshore fishing industry, in view of the contribution that it has made to defence in two wars, he will instruct the First Lord of the Admiralty and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries to take steps to ensure that conditions in the industry are sufficiently attractive to save it from decay.
§ The Prime Minister:The passage of the Inshore Fishing Industry Act, 1945, is evidence of the importance which the Government attach to the maintenance of the inshore fishing industry and I am satisfied that my right hon. Friends are already fully alive both to the merits and to the requirements of the fishermen, and will do all in their power to maintain the prosperity of the industry.
