§ 41. Captain Bairdasked the Minister of Education whether she has yet considered the letter sent to her some time ago about the lack of school facilities in the area of Stubley Lane and Coleman Avenue, Wednesfield; and what action does she propose to take.
§ Miss WilkinsonI regret that my hon. Friend did not receive an answer to his letter until recently. The delay is due to the inquiries which have been made locally about the school facilities available for the children on whose behalf he has been approached. I am satisfied that the present school population in the district can be satisfactorily accommodated in the existing schools, none of which is overcrowded and that, as no child has more than 1.7 miles to reach school and can have a midday meal at school, I should not be justified in pressing the local education authority to provide free transport.
