Mr. Turner-Samuelsasked the Minister of Fuel and Power the approximate number of boys who have been directed to the pits since the scheme began; the number of those boys who have actually worked in the pits; and the number at present, respectively, under direction and actually working in the pits.
§ Mr. Shinwell:Approximately 48,300 ballotees, optants and volunteers have been directed to the pits since the scheme began. Practically all of these men obeyed their directions and it is estimated that 30,000 remain on colliery books.
