§ 117. Mr. Errollasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether it is the policy of his Department at the present time to encourage or discourage the use of coal as the most suitable fuel for domestic heating; and whether, in view of the possibility of a shortage of coal, he intends, as a long-term policy, to deal with this problem by increasing the efficiency of coal utilisation or by encouraging the use of alternative fuels such as oil.
§ Mr. Shinwell:I attach great importance to improving the efficiency of coal utilisation both for domestic, and also for industrial purposes. I am not yet in a position to add to the information about the future supplies of oil fuel which 1 gave to the hon. and gallant Member for Chertsey (Captain Marsden) on 5th March.
