HC Deb 22 March 1946 vol 420 cc434-6W
Commander Maitland

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that uncertainty in regard to the future of East Kirkby airfield, Lincolnshire, has considerably reduced the amount of land available for ploughing up; and whether he will now state definitely whether this airfield will be reoccupied by the R.A.F. in June, 1946

Mr. Strachey

There has been no question of land not being ploughed up owing to uncertainty in our plans for this airfield. We have throughout intended to use it again for flying from about the end of this year onwards, and the only point to be decided was which part of the land there could be ploughed up without later causing any danger to flying. On 14th March the local representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries agreed to the selection of 50 acres for arable use this year, while the remaining 350 acres not under concrete are to be used for grazing.
