§ 102. Mr. Turtonasked the Undersecretary of State for Air whether his attention has been drawn to the evidence given on 13th March, 1946, before the Easingwold justices to the effect that there had been negligence and waste of his Department's property at East Moors aerodrome; what steps were taken by his Department to guard and conserve this property after the departure of the R.C.A.F.; and if he will institute an inquiry into the circumstances of this waste.
§ Mr. Strachey.Yes, Sir. I have received a report of this case. East Moor was formerly occupied by the Royal Canadian Air Force and was for a short time in charge of a care and maintenance party until the Royal Air Force took over in November. The station is being used to accommodate a flying unit, not for general storage. It is intersected by a public highway which makes it difficult to prevent the occasional entry of unauthorised persons and we are looking into the possibility of strengthening the station police there. The inquiries I have made do not confirm the suggestion of faulty administration, but I have called for a further report and will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
