HC Deb 20 March 1946 vol 420 c387W
123. Mr. Teeling

asked the Under secretary of State for Air whether any scheme is being considered whereby short-term commission pilots will be placed in civil employment after their release; and whether an industrial board to place these men has been, or will be, created.

Mr. Strachey

Officers who, after the end of their fixed term of engagement, are demobilised in the ordinary way are, of course, eligible for the benefits of the resettlement schemes for which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour and National Service is responsible. The recent White Paper on officers' pay states that consideration is being given, in the light of prewar experience and the experience which is now being gained by the Appointments Department of the Ministry of Labour and National Service, to the special steps which might be taken to assist in the resettlement of officers returning to civil life on completion of a period of short or extended service or on retirement at a relatively early age. The suggestion of an industrial board to help in placing these men will be borne in mind.
