HC Deb 20 March 1946 vol 420 c388W
127. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air how many R.A.F. personnel are still missing in Europe; and if any new procedure has been instituted for tracing them.

Mr. Strachey

Approximately 24,000 members of the Air Force are still recorded as missing or presumed killed on operations from home based commands or North West-Europe. No new procedure for tracing them has recently been introduced but as stated in my reply of 20th February to my hon. Friend the Member for Gravesend (Mr. Garry Allighan) we are doing our very best with the aid of the Missing Research and Inquiry Service to find out what has happened to every member of the R.A.F. who has been reported missing from air operations.
