HC Deb 20 March 1946 vol 420 c381W
111. Major Lloyd

asked the Undersecretary of State for Air why entry into Poland is forbidden to the Missing, Research and Inquiry Service of the R.A.F.; and how many British bomber crews fell in that territory.

Mr. Strachey

No application has yet been made for the Royal Air Force and Dominion Air Forces Missing, Research and Inquiry Service to be allowed to enter Poland, as we are dealing first with those areas of Europe in the West where we are likely to obtain information about the largest numbers of aircrew who have been reported missing. Later we hope to extend our inquiries eastward. We do not know how many of our bomber crews were lost over Poland, but the number of operations carried out there was relatively small.
