§ 86. Mr. Alpassasked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production if, before decidingthe site for the proposed extension of the runway at Filton aerodrome, he will consider the possibility of avoiding the demolition of property; and if he will inform those likely to be affected at the earliest opportunity and assure them in the event of their being dispossessed that reasonable alternative accommodation will be provided and adequate compensation paid to them.
§ Mr. WilmotI regret that it is not possible to extend the runway at Filton airfield sufficiently for flying the Braba-zon I aircraftwithout demolishing some 36 houses. The earliest possible notice will be given to those whose land and buildings it will be necessary to acquire forthe purpose and fair compensation will be paid to them. Alternative accommodation will be provided beforehand for the local residents who will be dispossessed of their homes, and it is my intention to send representatives shortly286W to Bristol, to hold a meeting of those affected and to explain what is proposed and to answer any questions which they may wish to ask
