§ 96. Dr. Barnett Strossasked the Minister of Education how many schoolchildren in England and Wales were re- 254W commended by school medical officers for operative treatment for the removal of tonsils and adenoids in 1938 and 1944; and what percentage of children so recommended received such treatment.
§ Miss Wilkinson128,405 schoolchildren were recommended in 1938 for treatment for chronic tonsillitis and adenoids, but I have no information as to the nature of the treatment recommended. In that year, 88,919 children received operative treatment. In 1944 the number of children returned as having received operative treatment was 63,745, but the statistics collected for that year do not show in how many cases treatment, operative or otherwise, was recommended by School Medical Officers.
