§ 36. . Mr. Dodds-Parkerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the policy of the Government in regard to the squatter question in the Kenya Highlands; and whether it is proposed to bring African squatters away from the farms against their will.
Mr. Creech JonesI would refer the hon. Member to paragraphs 53 to 60 of Kenya Sessional Paper No. 8 of 1945, issued last November, which set out the policy with regard to resident labourers in the Kenya Highlands With regard to the second part of the Question, I would refer specifically to paragraph 54 of the Paper, which states that
there is no question of the compulsory removal of those labourers back to the native areas; there is work for all to do in a great variety of occupations, and as the land is more intensively developed, there will be work for more still.
