HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 cc6-7W
63. Sir G. Fox

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of poultry farmers in this country, differentiating between large and small for which figures are available at the beginning of the war, the end of the German war, the end of the Japanese war and at the present time, respectively; what effect the cut in rations is likely to have on those connected with this business; and what will be the estimated drop in the numbers of poultry farmers in the next six months.

Mr. T. Williams

I regret that figures for the numbers of poultry farmers at the dates mentioned are not available. As regards the last two parts of the Question, the effect of the cut in rations will be a reduction in the number of birds maintained on poultry farms. It is impossible to estimate whether any, and how many, poultry farmers will decide to give up business.
