§ 55. Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister.of Food whether his attention has been called to the fact that a load of lettuce which came from Wisbech, via Covent Garden, was dumped on a farm in Kent; and what action does he propose to take to prevent waste of food of this kind.
§ Mr. StracheyI have seen a report in the Press that lettuces were dumped in Kent but I have been unable to trace the consignment. With a commodity so perishable as lettuce it is difficult to avoid supplies sometimes reaching the market in an unsaleable condition. The existing arrangements for marketing fruit and vegetables in this country are being reexamined.
