HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 c301W
132. Mr. Lyne

asked the Secretary of State for War whether Service personnel in Britain on overseas leave and due to return on 7th June will be granted an extension of 48 hours in order that they may have an opportunity of taking part in the Victory celebrations.

Mr. Lawson

An arrangement on the lines suggested could not be made without serious interference with the leave travel services and the leave programme as a whole. It would, moreover, give an unfair advantage to those men who happen to finish their leave on this particular date as compared with other men whose leave finishes a few days earlier. It is not therefore proposed to make any special arrangements for extensions of leave over Victory Day.
