HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 cc309-10W
96. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will give an assurance that adequate provision has been made to secure that no attempt to change the status quo in Trieste by force could have any chance of success.

Mr. Lawson

I would direct the hon. Member's attention to the public statement which the Supreme Allied Commander Mediterranean made towards the end of March this year in which he saidThe American and British Governments have authorised me to declare that it is their firm intention to maintain their present position in Venezia Giulia until an agreed settlement of the territorial dispute has been reached and put into effect.
