HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 c281W
37. Mr. F. Anderson

asked the Minister of Labour if Servicemen who are on demobilisation leave are entitled to sign on at the employment exchange prior to the date of demobilisation; and, in such cases where men have signed on as available for work, will they be entitled to receive unemployment pay.

Mr. Ness Edwards

Yes, Sir, Servicemen are free to register for employment at employment exchanges during their demobilisation leave. With regard to the last part of the Question, I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Minister of National Insurance, that a Serviceman in these circumstances is not entitled to receive unemployment benefit while he continues to receive full Service pay, that is to say, until the end of his demobilisation leave.
