HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 cc277-8W
9. Mr. S. Lloyd

asked the Minister of Works the value of materials for prefabricated houses imported into this country since l0th May, 1945, otherwise than under lend-lease arrangements; and the amount of import duty paid upon such materials.

Mr. Tomlinson

Apart from lend-lease arrangements, the only substantial import of materials specifically for prefabricated houses since the l0th May, 1945, has been the timber sections of 4,810 wooden houses imported from Sweden. The total value is £2,419,714 inclusive of import duty of £413,286. Imported materials are used for other types of prefabricated houses and for housing generally, but it is impossible to identify the specific amounts of these materials which may have gone into prefabricated houses.
