§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Transport in what countries the road accidents rate is less than in this country, having regard to the number of vehicles per mile of road; and whether he will arrange for a special study to be made of the circumstances in which such countries have been able to achieve a lower accident rate than Great Britain.
§ Mr. BarnesComparisons of road accident rates in different countries would be misleading. The total number of accidents which occur in any given period must be related to a variety of factors, such as the general speed of traffic, the density and type of traffic, and so on. My hon. Friend may like to know that we have a great deal of information about road accidents in other countries and this is constantly studied in relation to our own problem.
