§ 77. Major Wyattasked the Secretary of Sate for War when he proposes that men who have joined the Army since the beginning of the war on Regular service engagements shall be allowed to buy themselves out, provided that they have passed the time at which they would normally have been demobilised.
§ Mr. LawsonA man on a Regular engagement has contracted of his own free will to undertake a certain period of military service. There is no reason why he should not be held to fulfil this contract, if the Army requires his services, and in present conditions the Army cannot afford the loss of Regular soldiers which the reintroduction of discharge by purchase would involve.
