§ Mr. Gammansasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is yet in a position to make a statement regarding the claims for compensation from the widows and relatives of C.D. workers killed in Malaya at the time of the Japanese invasion; and the petition by the Junior Civil Service Association of Malaya for back pay for the period of occupation.
Mr. Creech JonesI have now been informed that the payment, under the Personal Injuries Scheme, of pensions to dependants of any Civil Defence workers who were killed in Malaya, has been authorised. As regards the second part of the Question, the whole question of back pay during the period of occupation is now under review locally with unofficial assistance.
