§ 131. Mr. Hareasked the Minister of Food whether he will investigate the practicability of starting a chain of mobile canteens to visit farm workers, in view of the inadequacy of the present additional cheese ration to make up for canteen facilities available to other categories of heavy manual workers.
§ Mr. StracheyI have been into the question with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, but I regret we are driven to the conclusion that a mobile canteen service would be impracticable. Agricultural workers are so widely dispersed. Nevertheless, in addition to the cheese ration, agricultural workers do have the advantage of several special schemes, such as the meat pie scheme and the provision of extra rationed foods at such times as harvest time.
