§ Mr. BurkeThe instructions issued in the Post Office about the release of temporary staff when they become redundant are based on principles agreed on the Civil Service National Whitley Council. Broadly speaking, the arrangement is that temporary staff who are efficient and willing to stay will be retained as long as possible, those with the shortest service going first, regardless of sex. There is, however, a preference in favour of ex-Servicemen of the 1914–18 war, who will go last.
