HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c379W
Mr. S. O. Davies

asked the Minister of National Insurance if he has considered the representations from the unemployed in South Wales, urging him to make provision for the extension of statutory benefit, because of the substantial reductions effected in their transfer to the Assistance Board with its means test qualifications; and has he a statement to make.

Mr. Lindgren

Yes, Sir, and I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to Clause 61 of the National Insurance Bill now before Parliament. I would add that in the meantime my right hon. Friend is examining the whole position in relation to the limited powers which he has to adjust the unemployment insurance scheme during the period of emergency arising out of the war.
