HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c350W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of War Transport what is the maximum mileage at which builders' merchants are permitted to deliver building materials to their customers by road; and whether this same limitation applies to deliveries made by the vehicles of his Department when carrying materials for the Ministry of Works' building programme.

Mr. Barnes

Under the Road Transport of Goods Order, 1944. the carriage by road of building materials, in common with other traffic, is limited to 60 miles, except by the Road Haulage Organisation or under permit. The only special mileage limitations on movements of building materials now in operation are on sand and gravel, 25 miles, and stone, 45 miles, and these are under consideration. The limitation of 35 miles on bricks was removed as from 25th February. There is no restriction on the distance which any goods may be carried by the Road Haulage Organisation.
