HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 cc290-1W
Sir C. Edwards

asked the Minister of War Transport what progress has been made in regard to the erection of the proposed Severn Bridge; and when work on this bridge will be commenced.

Mr. Barnes:

As soon as may be after the Trunk Roads Bill has received Royal assent, I propose to make an Order under Section 6 authorising the construction of a bridge across the Severn. Considerable progress has been made with the preparation of the necessary plans and drawings. I hope it may be possible to start constructional work on the foundations during the course of the next financial year.
