HL Deb 21 February 1946 vol 139 cc871-2WA
THE EARL OF GLASGOW

asked what is the total number of pupils in primary divisions of schools in England and Wales who are members of classes which include more than 40 pupils, and, secondly, what proportion this number bears to the total number of pupils enrolled in the primary classes in England and Wales.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

The collection of detailed statistics was discontinued in 1939, and is now being resumed this year. The complete returns have not yet been received, and owing to shortage of staff and the time required to collate the detailed figures, information about the size of classes cannot be made available for some time.

House adjourned at thirteen minutes past six o'clock.
