HC Deb 21 February 1946 vol 419 c304W
Lieut.-Colonel Sharp

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he will now state, in detail, the extent to which public officials, including teachers, in Hanover Province are permitted to take part in political activities.

Mr. J. Hynd:

Teachers serving in Hanover province are now free to take part in all political activities. Public officials serving in the province may join a political party and subscribe to party funds. Outside the administrative area in which they are employed they are subject to no restrictions: inside that area they may not speak at political meetings, serve on election committees, or write, speak or canvass for candidates. They may not stand for election to the government authority they serve or to any superior government authority whose jurisdiction covers the area in which they serve.
