Hartley and Pitt, who each received a seven years' apprenticeship as plasterers, obtained Lancashire and Cheshire Institute and also City and Guilds London Institute certificates, 212W worked for further experience as journeymen before spending three years on war service in their trades, are now prevented from working on their own account by being refused registration under Defence Regulation 56AB.
