HC Deb 18 February 1946 vol 419 c184W
Lieut.-Commander Braithwaite

asked the Secretary of State for Foreing Affairs what emoluments will be paid to the British Mission of Observers, which has been sent to Greece to scrutinize the forthcoming elections; whether their dependants are covered in the event of death through misadventure; and if the cost will be recovered from the Greek Government

Mr. McNeil

The members of the British Mission of Observers, with the exception of the technical experts and the clerical staff, are serving without remuneration. They are, however, being granted a subsistence allowance of£ a day to cover their out-of-pocket expenses. The cost of the British Mission is being borne by His Majesty's Government, but the Greek Government are supplying office space and housing facilities, and other miscellaneous items. As regards the risk of injury, I am informed that anex-gratia payment would be made based on the amount which would be paid in the case of a civil servant injured in similar circumstances.
