HC Deb 14 February 1946 vol 419 c135W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Health how many licences his Department has refused for the erection of houses which it was proposed would be built of brick; and how many such refusals there. have been since 1st October.

Mr. Bevan

Licences for new houses to be erected by private builders are issued or refused by local authorities in pursuance of the powers delegated by the Minister of Works, and I do not know how many have been refused in respect of houses of brick construction. Tenders for houses to be erected by local authorities (which do not require a civil building licence) are submitted to me for approval, but the records of tenders rejected do not distinguish houses of brick construction from other types.
