§ Mrs. Mannasked the President of the Board of Trade whether any steps are being taken to clear heavy and obsolete industrial sites for allocation to light industry.
§ Mr. BelcherAn Interdepartmental Committee has been considering this matter and their detailed recommendations are expected shortly. I understand that they are likely to recommend that steps should be taken for the acquisition of a number of derelict industrial sites in the Development Area in order that they may be cleared for possible future industrial use. Steps are already in hand to acquire one such site for development as a trading estate for light industries. The Scottish Industrial Estates, Limited, will shortly appoint an officer with special responsibility for site clearance work.
