Mr. Vaneasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will give an assurance that the felling programmes in the British zones of Germany and Austria, including the Harz project, lay down that clear fellings will not be carried out so as to expose the land to the danger of erosion and that sufficient seed trees will be left to secure the national regeneration of all areas where this would normally be done under the German working plans.
§ Mr. J. HyndI can give this assurance in respect of the British zone of Germany where the North German Timber Control have laid down that sufficient timber is to be retained to provide protection against soil erosion and that seed trees are to be left for forest regeneration. In Austria tree-felling is the responsibility of the Austrian Government.
