HL Deb 16 December 1946 vol 144 cc997-8WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked His Majesty's Government whether their declared intention of retaining in the Territorial Army at least one battalion of every infantry regiment extends to those Territorial regiments which have a separate identity.

LORD PAKENHAM

Only five Infantry regiments of the Territorial Army are unconnected with Regular Infantry regiments. These five are being retained, three as Infantry battalions and the other two in a changed role.

It will not be possible to retain all the independently named Territorial battalions attached to Regular Infantry regiments; the intention is to continue at least one of the Territorial battalions in each regiment.
