§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Food under what powers he has issued a notice, a copy of which has been sent to him, that when a milk business closes down the registered customers are compulsorily transferred to the Co-operative Society.
§ Mr. StracheyThe hon. Member has misinterpreted the notice. Where as in the case to which this notice relates, a milk retail business is purchased by one316W private retailer from another, registrations are automatically transferred to the purchaser, but any customer who wishes may transfer to a Co-operative Society of which he is already a member. No one is compelled to do so. The authority is given by Article 10 of the Milk (Control and Maximum Prices) (Great Britain) Order, 1945, S.R. and O. 1945, No. 410.
