HL Deb 12 December 1946 vol 144 cc911-2WA
VISCOUNT CECIL OF CHELWOOD

asked His Majesty's Government whether their attention has been called to the inadequate reports of the proceedings of the United Nations Assembly and its Committees at present broadcast by the B.B.C. and whether they can take steps to remedy this state of things.

THE EARL OF LISTOWEL

His Majesty's Government have received no complaints of the nature referred to. The compilation of news bulletins for broadcasting has always been a matter which His Majesty's Government have regarded as within the discretion and responsibility of the British Broadcasting Corporation and it has not been their practice to intervene. They believe, however, that the Corporation has given considerable prominence to news of the proceedings of the United Nations Assembly and its Committees. They have no doubt that the Corporation would be happy to furnish the noble Viscount with further information on this matter should he wish to approach them.

House adjourned at eight minutes past seven o'clock.
