HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 cc173-4W
97. Lieut.-Colonel Corbett

asked the Minister of Food what items he expects to be in shorter, supply in 1947 than during 1946 as a result of the agreement made between this country and U.S.A. for the joint administration of their zones in Germany.

98. Mr. Piratin

asked the Minister of Food what reductions in the supplies of food from the dollar countries can be anticipated as a result of the dollar cost to His Majesty's Government of the fusion of the British and U.S. zones of Germany.

Dr. Summerskill

Our import programme from dollar countries, as from all sources of supply, is subject to periodic review in the light of our available foreign exchange resources and, more particularly, our dollar resources. The agreement recently reached for the fusion of the British and United States zones of Germany does not create a new situation in that respect. There is no intention to alter our import programme from dollar sources as a direct result of that agreement.
