HC Deb 09 December 1946 vol 431 c174W
101. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Minister of Food if Sir Oliver Goonetilleke, Financial Secretary to the Government of Ceylon, adheres to his proposal to levy an export duty on Ceylon tea, thereby increasing the price to British users of Ceylon tea, while there is a temporary shortage of world supplies of tea.

Dr. Summerskill

Although I have been notified that the Ceylon Government proposes to levy an export duty on tea, I am still without precise information as to its probable scope and amount. I understand that a final decision will not be reached until some time in January.
